3D FDM large size printing common faults, solutions

12-03-2021

1, Too little extrusion of 3D filament printer materials

Under-extrusion means that the printer cannot provide the required filaments (or the printing speed is too fast to follow up). This situation can lead to thin layers, unnecessary gap layers, and completely lost layers (see 3D fdm printing problem 5: Missing layers).

There are several possible reasons: First, the diameter of the filament used does not match the diameter set in the slicing software. Secondly, the software settings of the slicer are defective, and the amount of extruded filament is too low. Finally, the material is restricted by the dirt in the nozzle during extrusion.

How to solve:

Check the diameter of the filament;

Use a caliper to measure the diameter of the filament;

Check whether the hot end is clean;

Adjust the extrusion ratio at 5% intervals.

2, Excessive extrusion of 3D printing filament

Over-squeezing means that the printer provides more material than needed, which can result in too much filament on the outside of the printed model. Usually, the extrusion factor or flow rate in the slicing software is set too high, which will cause this situation.

How to solve:

Check whether the correct squeeze multiple is set;

Reduce the amount of filament outflow.
